Poland: 86 per cent of Pupils in Warsaw stay away from Sex Education Classes

Polish parents are shielding their children from sex education classes en masse.

Poland: 86 per cent of Pupils in Warsaw stay away from Sex Education Classes

Poland's left-wing government is launching a new subject involving sex “education”. Parents' verdict is damning. The vast majority are keeping their children at home from these classes.

Orwellian “Health Education”

Since 2023, Poland has been ruled by a left-liberal government. It is keen to bring Poland into line with the European mainstream in terms of gender, LGBT and abortion. That is why Prime Minister Donald Tusk's government is introducing a new subject for sex education. It is called Orwellian “Health Education”, even though the perversions promoted in it are highly unhealthy. More importantly, the content of the lessons is contrary to Catholic Church doctrine, which is authoritative for many Polish parents.

Controversy in Poland

The new school subject immediately caused controversy in Poland. There was a huge outcry, including from Polska Katolicka, Nie laicka (“Poland Catholic, not secular”), a sister organisation of TFP Student Action Europe. A petition by Polska Katolicka was widely signed. The silent introduction of “Health Education” had thus already failed. But the problem remains that these lessons are being taught in schools.

In Warsaw, 86 per cent stay away

Now that the school year is well and truly underway, the figures on participation in “Health Education” are emerging. They speak for themselves. In the provinces of Tatra and Nowy Targ, 98 per cent of pupils stay away from the lessons. In the capital, Warsaw, the figure is 86 per cent, even though parents in such a large city are often more left-liberal. But even left-wing parents are opposed to extreme sex education when it comes to their own children.

Education Minister refuses to back down

Incidentally, the figures come from the schools themselves. The Polish Ministry of Education refuses to release the official attendance figures, despite an earlier promise to do so. Minister Barbara Nowacka is clinging to the failed project by awarding a medal to the developers of “Health Education”. ‘It's like rewarding the architects of a building that has just collapsed,’ writes Polska Katolicka.

Religion is optional, Sex Education is compulsory

We, therefore, advocate for the right of parents to keep their children at home from sex education classes. This right already exists for religious education in public primary schools. How unfair is it that children can be kept away from religion, but are obliged to listen to and watch sexual perversion? In the United States, the Supreme Court recently confirmed the right of parents to opt out of sex education classes.

We will continue to campaign

In Poland, there are now calls to make “Health Education” a compulsory subject from next year. This puts the Tusk government on a collision course with the Catholic doctrine that many Polish parents adhere to. That is why Polska Katolicka is continuing its fight. ‘This is the first victory for parents – but the battle is not over yet,’ writes the organisation, which promises to continue ‘denouncing programmes that seek to undermine God's order in education.’
