Pray and act to end the sin of abortion! This was the message spread to students in Nijmegen.
Campaign in Nijmegen: Catholic Students groan under Ideological Censorship
The unborn child must be given a visible presence at universities across the Netherlands. That is why volunteers from TFP Student Action Europe headed to Radboud University Nijmegen.
How did Pro-Abortion Activists know We were coming?
Upon arrival at the university car park, an Antifa member was already waiting to note down our number plate and take photos. How is that possible? Our demonstration had been reported to the authorities in confidence. Did they share the time and location of our street campaign with abortion activists in advance? That seems to be the case in an increasing number of municipalities. Previously, the police in Utrecht told counter-demonstrators during a morning street campaign where and when we would be demonstrating that afternoon.
The counter-demonstrators with their clichéd slogans and radical flags.
Antifa present to promote Abortion
We were placed by the police – who, for a change, were actually ensuring our safety – in a cordoned-off area, behind crowd barriers. Not because of our misbehaviour, but that of the Antifa. The last time we were in Nijmegen, Antifa members caused chaos and failed to follow the police’s instructions. They were there again this time, waving the Antifa flag. The police arrested one counter-demonstrator but did allow people with their faces covered to remain, which is a breach of the law.
Catholic Students do not dare to speak out against Abortion
We had many conversations with students who did not feel intimidated by the disgusting slogans of the counter-demonstration or the police presence. Our pro-life street campaign was highly visible. This allowed us to make the unborn child highly visible too. Cars drove past more slowly to read our banner. Several students expressed their surprise at us; they were Catholic but did not dare to openly profess their opinions and faith themselves due to the ideological censorship on campus.
Saint Willibrord would be horrified by This
Radboud University is a Catholic university. Its motto is “In Dei nomine feliciter”, or: “Happy in God’s name”. This was the blessing of Saint Willibrord, the Apostle of the Netherlands. If that same Saint Willibrord were to visit Radboud University in 2026, he would be horrified by the public support for abortion. The killing of unborn and newborn children was one of the barbaric pagan practices that Saint Willibrord and his fellow missionaries condemned and fought against in the Netherlands. In that sense, the modern practice of abortion takes us back to those dark times, when the Light had not yet shone in our country.
